Produced by Crossroads Pantomimes, this year’s pantomime at the SEC Armadillo will be Aladdin. We are delighted to confirm that Gary: Tank Commander’s Greg McHugh will return in a starring role. Joining him will be comedian and singer Leah MacRae and Sanjeev Kholi.

This will be the third year that Greg has starred in the SEC pantomime - he is quickly becoming a pantomime legend in Scotland. From parents, to younger children and friends on a festive night out, the pantomime audience is always a varied crowd, but Greg takes delight in making everyone laugh as Gary: Tank Commander. There’s something for everyone!

The creator behind Gary, Scottish-born Greg McHugh, trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Alongside writing and starring as Gary: Tank Commander, for which he was nominated for a Scottish BAFTA, he also reprised the role live on stage at the OVO Hydro for three sold out nights. Greg is also well-known for playing Howard in Fresh Meat, Eddie Scott in The A Word and David in Traitors for Channel 4. Gary will be swapping the 104th Royal Tank Regiment for the Armadillo stage, starring in the title role of Aladdin.

Joining him as Aladdin’s fabulous mother, Mrs Twankey, will be River City star, comedian and singer Leah MacRae, who also co-starred with Greg McHugh in Gary: Tank Commander. Leah has been a regular on River City for over four years, additionally appearing in episodes of Rab C Nesbitt, Comedy Lab and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps. She also starred as Jenny in the BBC sitcom Grownups opposite Sheridan Smith.

Sanjeev Kholi will join the cast of this year’s star-studded, 3D winter panto, Aladdin, in the role of the wicked Abanazar. The Glasgow actor, best known for his role as shopkeeper Navid in BBC’s Still Game said “I’m very excited to be doing my very first panto with such brilliant and talented pals. I’ve always loved pantos and getting to star in one has been a dream of mine for a while, so I can’t wait to take to the stage. Playing the bad guy is always a great laugh so I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

The cast also includes Blythe Jandoo as the Princess, Brian James Leys as the Emperor and Rachel Flynn as Sherazade.

The pantomime will once again be produced by Jonathan Kiley for Crossroads Pantomimes. Jonathan said “We’re absolutely thrilled to be back at the SEC Armadillo this Christmas and have been using the last year to plan for our biggest and best panto yet. Alongside the amazing returning cast we’ll once again be working with special effects company The Twins FX to create a truly memorable experience for our SEC audience.”
