Theatre
The SEC offers exciting possibilities for touring productions specialising in musical theatre and comedy.
The SEC Armadillo has staged successful runs of ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Joseph’, ‘Hairspray’ and most recently National Theatres critically acclaimed production of ‘War Horse’. The SEC Armadillo has also played host to a number of Drag Acts and lends itself well to this genre of entertainment. Its capacity of 3,000 exceeds other theatre options in Glasgow.
Our family focused pantomime attracts more than 60,000 visitors annually and proves just how practical the auditorium is for hosting theatre events.
Elsewhere on campus, innovative productions like the Cirque Du Soleil, National Theatre of Scotland’s ‘Black Watch’ and ‘Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour’ are prime examples of utilising flexible space to present unique events. Most recently, Kenny Wax brought his acclaimed productions of ‘SIX’ and ‘Mr Poppers Penguins’ to the Lomond auditorium across Christmas 2018. We have also hosted opera, ballet and dance productions for an enthusiastic theatre audience in greater Glasgow and beyond.
With a capacity of almost 14,300, The OVO Hydro is the perfect venue for staging arena style productions, whilst retaining an intimate theatre feel. In recent years we have staged Jesus Christ Superstar, Mrs Brown's Boys and Still Game.
Our venues have also played host to some of the top comedy acts touring the UK in recent years, such as Michael McIntyre, John Bishop, Jack Whitehall, Miranda Hart and Kevin Bridges. We are also proud to act as a key venue for the Glasgow International Comedy Festival.
