IFOMPT2016 Conference Chair

From start to finish, our experience with the SECC and their team has been entirely positive. We have worked with the team at the SECC through all the stages of hosting IFOMPT2016. Back in 2010, we interviewed several UK cities as part of our bid to host the most prestigious musculoskeletal physiotherapy world conference, IFOMPT. We were immediately impressed with Dawn Lauder and her team from the SECC, their depth of knowledge and enthusiasm for the project, their professionalism in helping us prepare our bid document, and their hospitality and openness during our visits to the SECC.

Of course we were very impressed with the venue itself when we visited, but what really stood out was the clear teamwork and understanding shown by every member of the team we met at the SECC. From Dawn, to the catering team, to the AV and security teams-all were very clear about what the SECC could offer, and all very open and willing to listen to what we wanted from our event.

This spirit and approach continued throughout our relationship with the SECC. We had several site visits which were all extremely focused and detailed around specific items we needed to discuss. It was clear in all our dealings, that delivering a successful conference is a team effort, and at all times we were assured that the SECC were working with us and the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau in a coordinated effort to deliver a great event.

So to the event itself-the staff at the SECC could not have done a better job. From the set up for exhibitors, to the welcome to delegates and the amazing food on offer, we cannot praise the staff highly enough. Delegates were made to feel welcome by courteous, smiling, friendly staff in all areas, and indeed many commented on this aspect of the conference. Kevin and the AV team were superb-this is the first conference I have been to where the AV was faultless-again many of our keynote and invited speakers made a point of praising the AV support-it was super slick and professional.

The award winning cuisine was also a highlight-delegates were treated to a fantastic range of high quality, fresh, tasty lunches- physios march on their stomachs, and to keep 1300 delegates from 59 international countries happy was no mean feat.

One of our aims for the conference was to deliver some legacy for Glasgow and Scotland, and the SECC Trees for Life scheme really helped us with this. Leaving behind an acre of new tress in the Caledonian Forest is a fantastic part of the legacy of IFOMPT, warmly appreciated by the delegates, and the International organisation IFOMPT.

If you are looking for a venue that is delegate focused, that delivers the world class event you aspire to, and that does so with a smile on its face and an arm around your shoulder, then the SECC is the place for you.
