Eventage Case Study

Founded in 2005, Eventage have been bringing medical conferences to the SECC for more than 10 years including NHS Scotland and the Society for Acute Medicine.

Glasgow’s reputation for medicine and ease of access from across Scotland made the city the obvious choice for NHS Scotland, but Eventage MD, Christine Lawson, cites one other important factor.

She says, “The 2005 conference was my first for NHS Scotland, so it had to run like clockwork and the SECC offered a range of different sized rooms that gave us flexibility right up until the last delegate had confirmed. In the end, we had 500 delegates and the venue felt like a great fit.”

NHS Scotland recently celebrated its tenth year at the SECC, attracting 1,700 delegates in June 2015.

Christine continues, “We started small in 2005, using the Lomond Auditorium for plenaries, Hall 1 for the exhibition and rooms in the Loch and Seminar suites for group work. But the flexibility of the venue has allowed us to grow and in 2014 our plenaries moved to the Clyde Auditorium and the exhibition to Hall 5. We’ve also had break-out sessions running concurrently in eight or nine rooms for a few years now.”

Enormous changes

Over the 10 years that NHS Scotland has been coming to the venue, Eventage have seen enormous changes.

Christine concludes, “I’ve noticed a huge amount of investment in IT and the award of Healthy Venue status gives my health-conscious clients confidence that they will always be served fresh, nutritious food. They also love the riverside campus, with the opening of the Hydro in 2013 adding to the sense of place."
