Cookie Policy
Introduction
This policy tells you about the cookies used on www.sec.co.uk (our website).
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer, mobile, or other device when you visit a website. They have lots of purposes, but the main one is to improve your user experience. You can read more about cookies here and here.
What cookies does our website use and why?
First-party and third-party cookies:
- First-party cookies which are cookies set by our website, and
- Third-party cookies which are cookies set by a third party (i.e. someone else) and are activated if you use their services on our website.
The third-party cookies on our website include:
- Vimeo or YouTube if you watch a video on our website, and
- Wufoo if you complete one of our “contact us” forms.
We don’t have control over third-party cookies - the third parties do. So, please check their cookies policies for more information.
The different types of cookies our website uses:
- Performance cookies which are used to monitor how our website is working and how you use it. They collect information like if you visit a certain webpage or click a certain button and aggregate it with the same information about other users so it’s anonymous. We then use that information to improve our website. They include Google Analytics cookies (see Google section below).
- Functional cookies which are used to enhance our website by enabling certain features and functionality. They collect information about the choices you make on our website, like the features you use or the changes you make to settings. We then use that information to personalise your user experience.
- Targeting cookies which are used for advertising. They collect information about how you use this and other websites to build a profile of your interests. That information can then be used by us and third parties to show you relevant advertising when you’re online (including on other websites). They include (1) Google Ad Manager cookies, and (2) social media pixels which aren’t cookies but work like targeting cookies so we treat them the same way. See the Google and Pixels sections below.
- Strictly Necessary cookies which are used because they’re necessary for the basic functioning of our website. In other words, to make our website work.
We don’t collect any information that directly identifies you through these cookies.
You have ways to control the use of cookies (including third-party cookies) on our website. And because we treat social media pixels like targeting cookies (see Pixels section below), you can control them on our website the same way you can control targeting cookies. See How can I control my cookies? section below.
Our website uses Google Analytics performance cookies to collect information about how you use it. For example, if you visit a certain webpage or click a certain button. We use this information to compile reports which enable us to improve our website.
This information can also be used, through Google Ad Manager targeting cookies, to show you relevant advertising when you’re online and using the Google network (including when you’re on other websites). This advertising could be from us or third parties.
We don’t collect any information that directly identifies you through Google cookies. We also don’t store any collected information. Instead, it’s stored by Google, and they anonymise it so it can’t be used to directly identify you. Click here to read more about the Google network and here to read more about Google cookies (including how to switch them off).
You also have ways to control the use of Google cookies on our website (see How can I control my cookies? section below).
Pixels
Our website uses social media pixels. Pixels are tiny, transparent images that are embedded in web pages and used to collect information about how you use our website. For example, if you visit a certain webpage or click through to Ticketmaster to buy tickets (see Ticketmaster section below). They aren’t cookies but they work like targeting cookies and so we treat them the same way.
Pixels are used to track the performance of advertising campaigns and send you relevant advertising when you’re online (including on other websites). For example, an event organiser might ask us to embed their Facebook pixel on a webpage for their event. That way, if users click on one of the event organiser's adverts on Facebook, they can track the number of clicks through to their event page on our website. They may then target adverts on Facebook to users who have been on their event page on our website.
We don’t collect any information that directly identifies you through pixels. We also don’t store any collected information. Instead, it’s stored by the social media platforms. Click on the policies below to read more about social media pixels and your privacy:
We treat pixels the same way as targeting cookies because they work like them. That means, you can control their use on our website in the same way as you can control targeting cookies. See How can I control my cookies? section below.
Ticketmaster:
Ticketmaster runs the online ticket booking service for our venues. So, if you’re booking tickets, you’ll be taken from our website to Ticketmaster’s. We don’t have control over the use of cookies on Ticketmaster’s website – Ticketmaster does. So please check their Cookie Policy for more information. You also have ways to control cookies used on this and other websites (including Ticketmaster’s) through your browser (see How can I control my cookies? section below).
